History

Progenus was created in 2001 as a spin-off of the animal and microbial physiology department at the Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech to propose DNA analysis services and related customized assays to the agro-food and veterinary industries.

The main milestones in the company development are :

  • In 2004, Progenus is ISO17025 certified (Belac 292-test).
  • Since 2004, Progenus is trusted by numerous Belgian breeders associations (pedigree, fingerprinting) and leading inspection, verification, testing and certification companies (DNA traceability, species detection, ...).
  • In 2007, Progenus entered a collaboration with the French company Laboratoire Service International in Lyon to develop and distribute ELISA and PCR kits in Belgium and in the Grand Duché of Luxembourg.
  • In 2008, Progenus entered a collaboration with a top-3 human vaccines company to develop custom molecular kits.
  • In 2009, Progenus moved in a new building to accommodate the growth of activities.
  • In 2010, Progenus acquired the Belgian bioinformatics company BioXpr.
  • In 2010, Progenus is granted the Alfer award for outstanding Technological Achievements.
  • In 2012, Progenus expanded its scientific expertise in Next Gen Sequencing and bioinformatics by the acquisition of a high throughput sequencing machine in order to propose a full DNA services platform.
  • In 2017, Progenus moved in a new building to accommodate the growth of activities
